Wearable Tech Expo Welcomes Plantronics as Platinum Sponsor and Keynote Speaker

Personal audio pioneer to discuss how contextual data gathering is driving wearable technology

NORWALK, Conn.—June 27, 2013—TMC today announced that Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) has signed on as a Platinum Sponsor for Wearable Tech Expo, and that Cary Bran, senior director of Innovation and New Ventures, will provide a keynote address at the event. Wearable Tech Expo is being held July 24-25 at the Kimmel Center at NYU in New York City.

Plantronics has been a wearable tech pioneer for decades – developing and delivering personal audio solutions that are used by millions to communicate. With its advances in on-board sensor technology and its open APIs, the company has moved the classic headset beyond audio and transformed it into a wearable device and platform with possibilities only limited by a developer’s imagination.

In his keynote address, Bran will be joined by Tanguy Leborgne, vice president of Consumer Solutions at Plantronics, to discuss the underlying technology advances that are making wearables possible. They will also demonstrate new functionalities currently under development and explain how the company’s flagship sensor-enabled wearable, the Voyager Legend, is a platform for developers to deliver real world information into applications and is creating new pathways for data sharing, including machine-to-machine interactions, improved business processes, automated services, virtual activity, highly customized user experiences, and more.

“Making processes and tasks even more efficient and streamlined has been driving technology for decades. These advances have provided value, but even more valuable contextual information about a person’s status, location, biometrics, etc., was not being collected or shared because the technology simply didn’t exist,” said Bran.  “With our ability to tap into this type of contextual information via interactions with an individual's personal sensing environment, the doors have been thrown wide open for wearables and we’re able to see and create a whole new world of possibilities.”

The full Wearable Tech Expo agenda features a wide range of industry leaders, topics and state-of-the-art technology, products and services, including everything from sensors to bionics to the latest clothing and accessories.

“We are excited to have Cary Bran and Tanguy Leborgne from Plantronics on board for the Wearable Tech Conference & Expo,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC and conference chairman. “The industry expertise and technological breakthroughs Plantronics has shown in wearable technology are astounding, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the table next.”

Wearable Tech is also sponsored by Gold Sponsors HzO and Intrinsyc.
