Wearable Technology Can Read Your Mind!

Since the 90s, documentaries on top of documentaries speculated about the possibility of mind-reading devices that could be controlled with a simple whim. We know already that the mind can power things like electrical train sets with simple electrical impulses. However, we never really came up with consumer-level devices or applications that allowed us to command devices to perform specific functions with our minds. This kind of sci-fi technology was generally out of reach, even to upper-class folk.

Of course, that's all in the past. Now, a studio called “This Place” in London has launched an app for Google Glass that will allow you to control the funky glasses with your noggin!

Perhaps the first question any rational individual would ask is, “How does it work?” Of course, this would logically be followed by the question, “Where was this technology hiding all of the years I was alive?”

The app, called MindRDR, hooks up to Google Glass through an attached piece of hardware known as the Neurosky EEG biosensor. The electroencephalograph (EEG) will pick up your brainwaves and see when you're focusing on something. As soon as you focus your attention towards a particular object, the app will take a picture of that object. By focusing even more on the object, the picture will be uploaded to Twitter.

OK, so this is kind of barebones compared to holistic mind control, but it's a step in the right direction! Oh, it also overheats quite often. These are baby steps. Soon, we might have Google Glass applications that allow us to control the entire interface with our minds, and even materialize what we're thinking about with illustrations on an MS Paint-ish interface. Maybe the next step would be to type up what we're thinking about in Facebook statuses.

Of course, if the device can read our minds, it will have to have fail-safes put in place so we don't accidentally post embarrassing tweets about how crazy we think our bosses are!
