XcelMobility Launches Cloud-connected Smartwatch

XcelMobility has announced the launch of its Companion Solution, a smartwatch that the company says is the first to offer an “always-on” cloud connection.

"Successful wearable computing devices need to solve real problems,” Ron Strauss Executive chairman of the board of XcelMobility, said. “Our Companion Solution wraps our CCwatch around what we believe to be the largest applications for smartwatch devices, monitoring of loved ones and security communications.Together with our partners, Mapworld China and China Unicom, we are providing a total solution for tracking and monitoring applications."

The Companion Solution offers real-time cloud monitoring for its CCWatch Android-based smartwatch. The CCWatch features 2G and 3G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Other features include a 1.1. Ghz processor and a 1.5 inch TFT display. The smart watch is much like a real life version of Dick Tracy’s watch from the comics.

XcelMobility has targeted two major applications for Companion Solution: caring for the children and the elderly and security forces.

Companion Solution will offer real time monitoring of children and the elderly so caretakers will be able to keep in touch with their loved ones at all times and know exactly where they are.

Security forces, both public and private, will also be able to track the location of officers at the same time.

The device is a testament to the flexibility of Android. Its open source nature lets developers run it on any hardware they choose without having to have a company like Apple sanction it for uses outside the smartphone form factor. It also shows how culture influences the design of tech products. The watch is obviously influenced by the “Dick Tracy” comics, as the previous generations of “flip phones” were inspired by the communicators on the original “Star Trek” TV series.
