Adidas Introduces Fitsmart Wearable Fitness Tracking Device

Adidas can't strap a personal trainer to your wrist, but that doesn't stop them from doing the next best thing and developing a wristwatch styled wearable called the Fit Smart fitness tracking device. This tracker is similar to other popular products like Fitbit, but is aimed to be worn only during periods of exercise and measurable physical activity instead of being worn at all times. This allows the device to be more focused on delivering applicable and measurable statistics during exercise that wearers can use to improve their overall physical fitness.

The announcement of the Fit Smart device also comes with a completely redesigned Adidas smartphone app, which allows the user to set weekly goals as well as workout regimens. A simple pie-chart shows which activities the user has planned per week, and how far away they are from reaching those goals. A line graph on the app also shows daily progress.

According to Paul Gaudio, the general manager for Adidas Digital Sport, “The key to the Fit Smart is having heart rate technology on your wrist.” This heart-rate sensor allows the Fit Smart to track a broad variety of metrics, such as calories burned, total distance, stride rate and more. An LED array on the device itself will also light up in certain colors depending on the user's intensity level for instant feedback.

Adidas will be showcasing this device along with others at the Wearable Tech Expo in New York later this month. Adidas Digital Sport's VP of Innovation Qaizar Hassonjee is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the event at 1:30 PM on Tuesday July 22nd, where he can be expected to provide more information about the Fit Smart fitness tracking device as well as Adidas Digital Sports in general.
