Google Glass Now Available in Play Store

It was only a matter of time before the internet giant released its exclusive wearable tech product to the public. Google Glass and all of its accessories hit the Google Play store in its Explorer Edition, still priced at $1500.

Google Glass has quietly hit stores, and with those interested in wearing $1500 in eyewear, Google is giving a set of frames or shades with the purchase. Since the glasses went on sale two years ago, there has been a trickling availability to the public. Google still doesn’t consider this a final consumer product, Explorer Edition, is just the beta product, and currently only available to those in the U.S.

Google hopes to make consumers part of the experiment to perfect the software and hardware of Google Glass. There is rumor that the final, cheaper, consumer product will be on sale by the end of the year. Samsung is rumored to have smart eyewear coming out by the end of September, in competition to Google Glass.

It is clear that Google wants its Glass in the hands of anyone who can buy it, calling it an addition to the Glass Exploration Program.

Google Glass links to ones smartphone to alert users of notifications and run applications. You can snap photos through the glasses, have reminder notifications pop up to be sure you don’t miss an appointment, check the weather and dictate texts.

While many wearable tech fanatics are hitting Google Play today to purchase Google Glass, there are many critics out there who are opposed to “Glassholes”. A device called Cyborg Unplug has the ability to detect if Google Glass users are trying to use a Wi-Fi network, and block them.

What will the future hold for Google Glass? Time will tell what customers think of the beta model and how useful Google Glass is in real life.
