Student Makes Wearable Tech That Runs On Your Pulse

Whether we’re talking about the Oculus Rift, or one of the many fitness trackers currently out, the wearable technology market is one that is growing all the time. One of the reasons this sector is growing so fast is the sheer number of gadgets being developed both by large companies and individuals alike. One student is demonstrating this quite well with a new kind of wearable gadget that can actually harness your body’s natural electrical current in order to power the device.

Naomi Kizhner, an Israeli grad student came up with this newest gadget. The student has actually made a number of different pieces of wearable tech with all of the same kind of features. The gadget’s design is simple in nature, getting the blood flow of the user to turn a tiny wheel inside the device and thereby powering the gadget.

While there are plenty of people who aren’t exactly comfortable with embedding a gadget in their body, it appears that was actually the point the student was trying to make by developing the pieces in the first place. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the Israeli said she wanted to provoke a reaction and the thought as to how far people are willing to go in order to “feed” people’s addiction of declining resources.

“There are lots of developments of renewable energy resources, but the human body is a natural resource for energy that is constantly renewed, as long as we are alive. I wanted to explore the post-humanistic approach that sees the human body as a resource… Will we be willing to sacrifice our bodies in order to produce more energy? My intention is to provoke a discussion.” Kizner told the magazine.

The grad student ended up developing three distinct gadgets called The Blinker, The E-Pulse Conductor and the Blood Bridge. To go along with the devices, the Kizner made a video entitled Energy Addicts in order to demonstrate her feelings on the matter.
