Apple Releases WatchKit for Developers

Ever since iOS 8 was launched earlier this fall, Apple has been working on new updates that will allow a number of different functions. On Tuesday, the company announced that the WatchKit development tools are officially available to developers. This means developers will be able to create applications and software for the Apple Watch. On the company’s official blog, Apple laid out what the devkit means for its upcoming device.

"Apple Watch is our most personal device ever, and WatchKit provides the incredible iOS developer community with the tools they need to create exciting new experiences right on your wrist," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "With the iOS 8.2 beta SDK, developers can now start using WatchKit to create breakthrough new apps, Glances and actionable notifications designed for the innovative Apple Watch interface and work with new technologies such as Force Touch, Digital Crown and Taptic Engine.”

The iOS 8.2 Beta with WatchKit can be downloaded directly from the company’s developer website. This site also has the Apple Watch development resources that are available for those developers who are looking to make truly original pieces of software for the gadget. The WatchKit can be used in order to create Glances, actionable notifications and Apple Watch apps that use codes driven by the iPhone.

It appears that Apple is running its WatchKit package for developers much the same way it was using its HealthKit for developers program shortly before iOS 8 and the newest iPhones were released. Included in the announcement, the WatchKit for developers has gone live. Apple announced a number of developers and companies that have already started work on their Apple Watch applications. ESPN, Instagram and American Airlines have all started building their applications and those apps will have features that are especially useful when talking about the wearable technology.
