What if a Wearable Device Could Let People Know When You're Emoting?

We’re no strangers to wearable technology these days. Health conscious people rely on their fitness trackers to let them know how much they’ve moved and how many calories they’ve burned. New smart watches can act as a mobile device for your wrist. There are even gadgets that help parents keep tabs on their toddlers and bracelets to keep women safe. We are very connected with these new fangled contraptions that we can wear, but what if there was a device that can let people know that you’re, well, in a state of heightened emotion?

That’s kind of the premise behind Bionolux’s BE, a device that basically provides feedback on the user who wears it. Say you’re at a concert and a specific song moves you in such a way that it can be detected by a piece of equipment. That’s BE. This device takes those senses and translates them into a simple glow. The more you feel, the more it will light up.

The concept itself is pretty fantastic, but on the consumer side, it’s a bit curious as to how such a device can offer any benefits. BE is more targeted towards businesses who can use honest to goodness feedback; think concert venues, focus groups, lectures, fashion shows. BE gives the ability to show, without bias, what is grabbing the attention of an audience.

There are similar technologies on the market geared more toward a consumer demographic, like the Moodmetric, a simple ring that reads energy from the reactions in your nervous system. It then relays this emotional information over Bluetooth to a smartphone app that chronicles all the different moods that you've felt throughout the day. While this is good for those who want to keep themselves emotionally in check, BE promises to deliver more for those on the data mining end of things—seeing truly is believing.

Hear what Bionolux had to say about BE and where the future lies for wearable technology:
