Will.i.am's Wearable Tech Startup Hires Tech Veteran Phil Molyneaux as COO

Wearable technology is only getting bigger as we head into the 21st century. New reports show that those who are planning on purchasing wearable technology are now numbering one in five. Companies are jumping into the mix all the time, just hoping they can find the magic bullet when it comes to becoming the king of the hill. One new wearable startup company has been built from the ground up by legendary recording artist Wii.i.am. What makes his company even more noteworthy is that he isn’t messing around when it comes to bringing in the best to man the helm.

Late last week, it was announced Will.i.am’s new startup was bringing Phil Molyneux on board as COO. This particular move shows that the music artist is serious about taking his company from the bottom to the very top. Molyneux certainly understands the tech world, having spent the last 28 years at the same position for Sony Electronics in the U.S. The only person that will be above Molyneux will be Will.i.am, the company’s co-founder and CEO.

So far, the firm has rolled out exactly one product, a $399 wristband device that is called Puls. The firm has done a limited rollout of this device but it already stands out among the crowd. Unlike most other smart bracelets that are on the market these days, this device doesn’t need a cell phone to sync to. Rather the cellphone is built into the Puls and it can make calls all on its own while also accessing the Internet.

Molyneux sat down with the New York Times and said that one of the reasons he moved on from Sony to Will.i.am’s company is because the newer firm is quite a bit more agile. The tech bigwig said there was no comparison when it comes to the ability to pivot and change with the times.
