Olio Joining the Smartwatch World

There is very little doubt that the wearable tech world is only growing by the day. Companies from all over the planet seem to be rolling out their own products with their own little spins on what people already recognize constantly. One new report indicates that those planning on purchasing wearable technology in the very near future are now numbering one in five. The real question now is, how can new companies stand out from the crowd?

Olio, a new smartwatch company seems to think it can stand out from the pack simply by marching to the beat of its own drummer. The company has ignored Kickstarter, Indiegogo and Google’s open watch platform in order to put together its new device. Even the design of the clasp for the watch is something the firm built from the ground up.

Olio is going to have a tough road to hoe and the company seems to understand that. It is launching preorders just two weeks before Apple begins taking preorders for the Apple Watch. If you thought the Apple Watch had a high price tag, then you’re probably going to be surprised by the fact that Olio is pricing it’s product even higher than Apple.

The Olio smartwatch isn’t something that will be completely unheard of once it actually hits the market. Set to be launched with price tags of either $595 or $745, the watches will be able to work with either your Android or iOS devices. Where Olio really wants to stand out is by becoming a kind of triage nurse for your iPhone or Android phone and stop the constant flow of notifications. The Olio smartwatch is geared toward learning your habits and figuring out what notifications you actually want to get and which ones can wait until later.

Paired with a band and a casing that is designed to look like a regular watch, Olio is hoping fashion-conscious customers will be interested in what the watch has to offer. Only time will tell whether the company is correct.
