Glide Brings First Video Messaging App to Apple Watch

There is little doubt that the Apple Watch is going to be changing the way the mobile device market will move forward. Companies are trying to make sure that when the face of the mobile market changes, they are right there in the thick of it. Such is the story with Glide, an Israeli startup that is bringing a live video messenger to the Apple Watch.

With this brand new app, the company appears to be moving closer to technology we had previously only seen in science fiction films. This is also the very first company that has decided to offer this kind of tech on the Apple Watch—and if the reports are true that the device is set to sell as many as six million units in its first quarter on the market, then Glide might become the king of this particular sector rather quickly.

With the new application, users will be able to receive video, text and photo messages on their wrist. The app also takes advantage of the “handoff” feature which lets users switch between their iPhone and their Apple Watch at the exact same spot in a video.

“By combining Glide with the Apple Watch, we are ushering in a new era of digital communication that will largely replace text messaging. ‘Tap and talk’ messaging delivers a more natural experience on these devices’ tiny screens than typing. It’s fast, effortless and fun!” Ari Roisman, the CEO and co-founder of Glide said in a recent release.

In addition to video playback on the Apple Watch, users will also get special notifications as missed messages alerts. There is even an icon to indicate when you’ve missed a text or photo message and when you have missed a video message. There will also be a set of “quick responses” that will come in the form of short pre-written text messages or emojis. Last but not least, the app also features a speech to text function.
