Motorcycle Riders in Good Hands with Allstate's Apple Watch App

While the Apple Watch already has a lot of apps available, insurance provider Allstate has now come out with an app for motorcycle riders called GoodRide.

"We saw this as a great opportunity to showcase some of the innovation we do on behalf of our customers," Roger Tye, Allstate senior director of consumer engagement said. "We live in a hyper-connected society today and the Apple Watch innovation will make GoodRide even easier for riders to use when they are on the road."

The GoodRide app lets riders log their rides right from their watches. They can track miles and routes and share their rides on social networks. It also includes a maintenance section so users can track all repairs made to their bikes.

In addition to these features, riders can also check weather conditions and gas prices along their route.

The app’s ability to call for roadside assistance if they do run into trouble also helps make them feel that they’re in good hands, true to the company’s slogan.

GoodRide is already available for the iPhone and Android-based phones, and Allstate said that riders have logged over 50,000 rides, totaling 8 million miles.

The app shows how even an industry as stodgy as insurance can innovate to create new apps for its customers. The romantic image many Americans still have of leather-clad bikers roaming the highways might seem at odds with the insurance company’s purpose of reducing risk, but the new app might increase the company’s market.

A mobile app also contributes to the image of freedom many people still associate motorcycles with. The smartwatch phone factor might be even easier to use than a smartphone, since riders won’t have to fumble for it in their pockets

Allstate is also bringing attention to the new app with its Ride for Motorists, where a rider equipped with an Apple Watch running GoodRide will ride across all 50 states to bring awareness to how motorists can protect motorcycle riders.
