New Wearable Glucose Monitor Readies TV Rollout

Echo Therapeutics, the medical device company that manufactures a continuous glucose monitoring system, will soon see that system highlighted on several paid television programs across the globe.

The company recently reported that entrepreneur and former model Kathy Ireland will host a ‘Worldwide Business with Kathy Ireland’ feature about the continuous glucose monitor, which Fox Business Network will then show in the U.S. and Bloomberg International will feature internationally.

Scott Hollander, the president and CEO of Echo, spoke in his company's announcement about how the glucose monitoring technology will have potential within the wearable health market because of the need for all populations to make sure their blood sugar levels are within certain limits.

“We are very excited to forge this new collaboration with Kathy Ireland Worldwide,” Hollander said. “This production allows us to share our message on a global platform and the opportunity to broaden and expand our reach. We look forward to communicating and demonstrating the potential of our continuous glucose monitoring system in the wearable health market because tracking glucose is important to everyone, not just to people with diabetes.”

JL Haber, vice president of programming for Worldwide Business with Kathy Ireland, further commented that the company is excited to have the Echo product in its wearables segment of the show. TMC has previously noted that there is great potential for growth within the overall wearables market, and that many applications of wearable technology will end up in the medical field. Everything from smart glasses to insulin pumps are part of that fold, and glucose monitors will have a role to play as well.

Echo will likely target the healthcare market for both people who have diabetes and those who are just concerned about their overall health. For those with diabetes, continuous monitoring of their blood sugar levels can drastically change how they manage their insulin and their diets. Even people who check their sugar at regular intervals could be at a disadvantage when compared with a continuous system. Health advocates could also find that they are eating too much sugar throughout the day and make changes to their diets to compensate and reduce the risk of having health problems down the line.

There is reason to believe that Echo's glucose monitor will get swept along the current with the rest of today’s wearables market. It could be an important player as it continues to develop its system and gets more exposure through shows like the one mentioned above.
