Wearable Technology in UK Gaining Popularity

As we go further into 2015, wearable technology is only getting more popular. When it comes to the most important aspects of this particular market, customers are saying that fitness tracking and faster payments take the cake. A new research report from WPP media agency Mindshare and Goldsmiths, University of London has found that these factors are only getting more important when talking about the market as a whole.

The report, “SHIFT 2015” is aimed at understanding the top customer motivations when it comes to wearable technology. By understanding the motivations of a customer upstart companies especially will be able to offer products that are more attractive when it comes to new customers. The report takes consumer device testing, workshops and expert interviews into account.

When all was said and done, the most popular need identified was the ability to make everyday life smoother and easier. Thirty-six percent of people who participated in the report said this was key. Another 38 percent said that they were interested in wearables that could actually control the heating or lighting preferences in their home. Another 29 percent said that they wanted to be able to use wearables to do things like open car doors.

Fitness trackers, especially those that are able to track sleep patterns, are getting more popular all the time. When talking about the report, 50 percent of smartphone users said they are interested in this prospect.

When it came to the future purchases of wearable technology, the report says that 13 percent of smartphone users in the U.K. say they are likely to get a piece of wearable technology in the next year. That number might be impressive but it’s the numbers that will be shown when talking about the near future that are even more impressive. The report says that 16 percent of the population will own a wearable device by 2016.
