Wearsafe Tag is Wearable Tech with a Different Aim

Wearable tech is only getting more popular as we move further into the 21st century. While there are plenty of people in North America that love their wearable devices, the trend is by no means an American one. Popularity for wearables is growing on a worldwide stage, and there are more and more companies that are working hard to offer unique devices with special functionality. One Hartford, Connecticut company has come up with the Wearsafe Tag, which has exactly one use: to make sure people you know, know you might be in danger.

There have been wearable devices for safety before. Life Alert can be claimed to be one of the first wearable tech devices conceived, though those devices are largely exclusive for senior citizens. The Wearsafe Tag is meant for anyone who wants to wear it and offers a slightly different response for those that activate it.

The device is meant to be worn discreetly, according to the company and only activated if someone is out and about and suddenly finds him or herself in a situation where requiring immediate help. When those situations arise, the press of a button will alert specific people through an accompanying app in the user’s phone. “So when I press the button, you’re going to see that the app was turned on,” David Benoit of Wearsafe Labs recently told WTNH.com. “Instantaneously, everyone in my network is going to get the same alert screen. It shows my pic, name, alert from me, a text just came in.”

The application will also give these contacts the location of the wearer, as well as an audio of the situation. The company recently did a small test run, by giving 30 devices to local college students. These students reported back that they felt safer walking alone at night. Following the test, the company stated that it believed the device was serving its purpose. And based on the results, it is more than likely that the device will continue to serve its purpose for future users.
