More Android Wear Devices Hit the Market

While the Apple Watch may have grabbed the tech headlines, Android device makers are following suit with a series of smart watches based on Android Wear, according to CNET.

Apple’s devices offer a simple, streamlined experience, but the Android Wear devices offer a number of features and styles.

Android Wear was released last year, but very few devices used it. It appears that the release of the Apple Watch lit a fire under manufacturers’ feet. Companies such as LG, Asus, Motorola and Huawei can’t seem to release smartwatches fast enough.

While Android is still the leading mobile phone operating system, it lags behind in the wearable market. Apple leads in the smartwatch category.

Android devices have been significantly cheaper than iOS devices. It’s possible to buy Android phones with a no-contract plan for under $100.

Apple’s devices are premium products with premium price tags. It also typically offers a single, albeit stylish, product design, with only a few different colors being the typical option.

It’s a replay of the ‘80s, where Apple offered simple, elegant design with the Mac while the PC clones offered choice and bargain-basement prices.

There are premium Android Wear devices for those who want them. Motorola has introduced the Moto 360 with a round face and high-quality materials. As Motorola Mobility was formerly owned by Google, the creator of Android, it’s something of a flagship model.

Smartwatches look to be the next logical step for the mobile industry. With the smartphone and tablet markets saturated, these devices are being marketed as a complements.

Android Wear might be in a good position. Most people will want a smartwatch that works with what they have already, and Android is still the most popular mobile platform. Existing Android owners will likely favor Android Wear devices.
