Vector Watch Available for Preorder

It’s been almost 7 months since Vector introduced their Vector Smartwatch, a classy, understated, high end answer to the large touchscreen-sporting smart watches like the Apple Watch. It seems that Vector is ready to ramp up their large scale production: the company now has twelve models of the watch available for preorder in the United Kingdom on their website, with plans to ship within the next month or so.

The allure of the Vector Smartwatch is the fact that, at first glance, it doesn’t appear to be that “smart.” It looks like your average, high end watch. In fact, there is no touch screen component to the watch face at all, representing quite the departure from the Apple Watch-like legion of wearables. Instead, Vector focuses on simplicity.  

Like all smart watches, the Vector can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth. Over that connection, it can receive notifications like text messages, social media notifications, and calendar alerts and reminders. These are displayed in an understated way: simple white text displayed on the watch face. In lieu of the more common touch screen interaction, users can use hand movements to get rid of notifications.

The release and apparent popularity of the Vector and other, more simplistic takes on wearable technologies represent an interesting trend in the field. When wearable technologies and smart watches were first being marketed to consumers, developers tried to cram as many features as possible into them, almost as if the goal was to make sure users would never have to take their smartphone out of their pockets. It seems that consumers have been overwhelmed by that tactic. They want to use their smart watches to get alerts quickly and easily, but that’s about it. As such, producers are starting to alter their models to provide more simplistic options.

Vector watches retail between $249-$399.
